Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) – The Radiance Elixir
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) is a stable, water-soluble vitamin C derivative widely used in skincare formulations for brightening, antioxidant protection, and improving overall skin radiance. It appears as a fine white to off-white powder and dissolves in water with a typical pH range of 7–8. MAP is a gentle yet powerful ingredient suitable for serums, creams, and lotions, making it a versatile choice for radiant, healthy-looking skin.
Recommended Usage Rate and pH Stability
MAP is recommended at 0.2–3%, with some formulations going up to 10%. It remains stable and effective within a pH of 6.0–7.0, ensuring its potency and reducing the risk of discoloration. Its stability against oxidation makes it an excellent choice for long-lasting, effective vitamin C skincare.
Solubility and Appearance
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate is fully water-soluble and appears as a fine, white powder. It dissolves more easily when the water phase is warmed, creating a smooth, elegant consistency in formulations.
INCI Name and Comedogenic Rating
Scientifically referred to as Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, MAP has a low comedogenic rating of 1, making it unlikely to clog pores. Its excellent stability profile makes it ideal for brightening skincare products.
Recommended Skin Types
MAP is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive, dry, oily, and combination skin. Its gentle nature makes it ideal for brightening and antioxidant-focused formulations.
